Projects Agency Defense Advanced Research (DARPA) Texas (U.S.), aims to devise how to prolong the lives of wounded soldiers.
scientists develop techniques to extend the period during which they can save a soldier injured or lost a large amount of blood. One option to solve this problem is a temporary cessation of vital functions, when that man esrarĂa neither alive nor dead. According to the media explaining the soldiers could thus become a kind of "zombies" until they can be resuscitated.
The main objective of the study is to reduce the death rate of soldiers in the battlefield.
The first experiments were conducted with pigs, which have a cardiovascular system similar to humans. U.S. scientists already have some ideas on these issues. In particular, researchers at Stanford University are proposing to use a mechanism of hibernation, similar to that used by proteins. But not yet been made practical experiments on this theory.
addition, Dr. Mark Roth Research Center Fred Hutchinson Cancer has created a mix in that the main component is hydrogen sulfide. This mixture significantly reduces the oxidation processes in the body causing an artificial clinical death.
To test the efficacy of this compound, there have been experiments with nematodes (worms) and rats. After injection of the drug to rats, there was the suspension of vital functions, a process which was extracted after 60% of their blood. Permaneceron animals up to ten hours in those conditions and then were resuscitated successfully. In the TIPS, where 15 scientists are conducting these investigations, the first results expected within a year and a half.
